Tire experience over the years:
As I bought the bike, it came with Bridgestone Batlax
BT45 at front and rear. The front tyre was at its end and had the typical
sporty wear of a tyre at to low pressure. The sides were worn off. At
normal tyre pressure the tyre has a pointy shape that influences the
steering characteristics. The bike kind of "falls" in the corner.
I have had similar riding behaviour with the LeMansII,
but at the LeMansII, it feels like increased
handling, whereas it feels like instability on the California II.
From experience with the Michelin Pilot Active front tyre on the Le Mans
II, I knew that it gives more cornering stability and a more precise
steering behaviour with reduced handling. So I thought of changing the worn
Bridgestone by the Pilot Active. This was a good choice.
The rear end still has the pretty good Bridgestone Batlax
BT45. I will kkeep it at a little higher pressure
for this 270kg heavy bike. Right now (on dry surface) it behaves completely
to my satisfaction. At 115.000 km also Pilot Active Rear. I replaced both
tyres around 125.000km with still quite some profile left. I needed new
ones for an autumn trip with possible bad weather.
